Red Mountain is a landmark for El Medano where windsurfers gather.
El Medano can easily be seen from the Reina Sofia Airport in TenerifeSouth because it has a volcanic cone known as the Red Mountain, or Montña Roja in Spanish. Being close to the airport makes the resorttown ideal for visitors to the island and is very popular with windsurfers who gather there. Many international contests for thissport are held in El Medano.
But El Medano has much more to attract holidaymakers with long sandybeaches, excellent weather, being in the extreme south of Tenerife, and having plenty of bars, restaurants and shops in the resort. Its La Tejita beach is thought of as one of the finest on the island. The beaches are ideal for swimmers and sunbathers, though can be a bit windy at times.
Of course, any tourists coming to Tenerife will need to find suitable Tenerife accommodation. Fortunately there are plenty of Tenerife apartments for rental in the south of the island and these are perfect for self-catering holidays.
Besides being near to the airport for Tenerife South, El Medano is also closeto the fishing village of Los Abrigos and the Golf del Sur area with its golf courses where golfers can enjoy their sport. It is easy to drive, take a taxi or a bus to these parts, as well as to the very popular resorts of Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas that are also on the south coast of Tenerife.
A busy weekly market is held in El Medano’s main square and this is where festival entertainment is also staged. Live music can be enjoyed in some of the bars and other venues in the town too.
Many people enjoy walking in the dunes of El Medano and climbing its Red Mountain, and naturalists and botanists can find many types of unusual floar and fauna in the area.
These are just some of the reasons why El Medano is such a popular seaside town in the south of Tenerife.
